The straight-razor shave
The Ritual, in five acts
Fifty-five minutes, unchanged since 1972. Come with a week’s growth and no appointments after.
The Recline
You are laid back in the chair and the world is asked to wait. A short consultation on the grain of your beard, and nothing more is required of you.
The Hot Towel
A towel, steamed and wrung by hand, is laid over the face. Pores open, the beard softens, and the shoulders finally drop.
The Lather
Warm soap is whipped in a bowl and painted on with a badger brush, worked against the grain until it stands.
The Straight Razor
The blade, stropped to a whisper, is drawn in long confident passes — with the grain, then across. This is the part that cannot be hurried.
The Finish
A cool towel to close the pores, a balm worked in by hand, and a look in the glass. You leave a degree sharper than you arrived.

A hundred years of the trade
Four generations, one strop, and a standard that has never once been lowered.
1921
The first chair
Alfred Pallance hangs his pole above a single leather chair on Foundry Lane. A shave is tuppence; a cut, a shilling.
1948
…and Sons
Alfred's boys, Edward and George, take up the razor. A second and third chair are set. The name over the door grows by two words.
1972
The Shave Room
A back room is given over entirely to the straight-razor ritual — hot towels, badger brushes and a standing rule of silence.
1999
The fourth generation
The workshop is restored to its 1920s panelling. New hands, old standards — the same strop that sharpened Alfred's blade still hangs by the door.
Today
By appointment & by tradition
